Modern aerospace and defense platforms are rapidly transitioning to SOSA® aligned, Ethernet-based architectures to support increased information sharing, modularity, and system scalability. However, while Ethernet enables flexible and ubiquitous connectivity, it remains inherently non-deterministic—creating challenges for time-critical applications such as sensor fusion, flight control, and autonomous decision-making.
Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN), as defined by IEEE 802.1 standards including the Aerospace Profile (802.1DP), introduces deterministic communication over standard Ethernet by enabling precise time synchronization, traffic scheduling, and bounded latency. These capabilities allow time-critical and best-effort traffic to coexist on a shared network while maintaining strict timing guarantees to the message traffic that needs it.
What attendees will learn:
How TSN is being applied in real-world aerospace and defense systems, including its role in replacing legacy deterministic networks such as MIL-STD-1553, ARINC-429, and AFDX
Architectural considerations for deploying TSN within SOSA aligned OpenVPX systems, including considerations for mixed time-criticality and DAL criticality traffic environments
How the combination of Data Distribution Service (DDS®) and TSN takes deterministic communication to the next logical step, making it possible to specify and enforce Quality of Service (QoS) for critical data flows in distributed systems
How a phased approach to integrating TSN-enabled solutions can reduce system complexity, lower integration risk, and accelerate deployment of next-generation mission systems
Join us to gain a clear understanding of where TSN fits, how to deploy it, and how to reduce integration risk along the way.
