One potential outcome of an industry that moves toward a chiplet-dominant design philosophy is full interoperability across vendors. Imagine an open marketplace where designers mix and match chiplets from any vendor, any node, any packaging house with plug-and-play silicon. Is it possible that chiplets could lead to cross-vendor designs the way PCIe standardized board peripherals? Seems like a dream. The technology challenge won’t likely be the obstacle, instead it will be finding the business models that could make a chiplet marketplace viable. This candid roundtable of experts in interconnect IP, EDA, silicon, and test will debate whether an open chiplet economy is possible, how it might be done, and how far away it might be.
