Modern military systems increasingly rely on high-performance compute platforms to meet the growing demands for software and software reuse. In response, the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) mandated in 2019 that all new platforms and upgrades adopt a Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) to accelerate deployment, minimize downtime, and reduce long-term life cycle costs by easing integration and fostering reuse. For avionics platforms, the Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE) Technical Standard has been instrumental in enabling MOSA across multiple platforms and is already integrated into deployed systems. As ground vehicle designers look to adopt similar standards, key questions arise: Should the same flight safety certification, which has faced scrutiny in recent years, be applied universally, or should we consider a different approach, such as leveraging safety standards tailored for the automotive industry, which have been successfully applied across millions of vehicles worldwide?

This webcast will explore these questions with industry experts, examining the impact of the FACE approach and the technological and bureaucratic challenges that must be overcome to unify standards across both domains.
