Manfred Schmitz, born in Nuremberg Germany, graduated from the "Ohm" Nuremberg Institute of Technology with a degree in communications engineering at the age of 22. Already during his studies, together with two colleagues, he founded the company MEN Mikro Elektronik GmbH in Nuremberg "out of the garage", so to speak.
MEN" (today "Duagon") produces robust and secure computers mainly for the public transport sector. Manfred Schmitz managed the company for more than 36 years and was largely responsible for technical innovation. Manfred retired in 2018 from the company, which in the meantime had more than 300 employees*.
Together with Barbara Schmitz, he founded the non-profit “Innovation and Future” Foundation in the same year.
In parallel, he is active as a consultant for several companies. For example, he still chairs the PCIMG working group CompactPCI-Serial. For the Ci4Rail GmbH he is responsible for innovations in the hardware sector.
