Killing the Kill Chain in Manufacturing: Protecting America’s Most Vulnerable Industry
This session is part of our Smart Manufacturing Day / Building the Metaverse Virtual Conference. Registration/event page here.
The Colonial Pipeline attack is an ominous reminder of the unique vulnerabilities of manufacturing’s OT environments. In 2022, this sector became the most targeted by cyberattacks. Manufacturing risk amounts to intuitive factors, such as unpatchable legacy systems, or systemic issues, such as third-party contractor risk or the inability to take operational systems down to implement security controls. This presentation will explore these factors and the OT cyberattack kill chain, including scanning, compromise, and lateral movement. Then, it will discuss how federally compliant Zero Trust Architecture can kill the kill chain and frustrate threat actors, stopping attacks before they happen.
